For those of us who truly appreciate the power of style and are fascinated by fashion, we know too well the importance of fashion icons who pave the way and act as serious inspiration for our closets.

Whether it is a fictional character like Mad Men’s Donald Draper or real-life fashion icons like Michael Kors, sharing his years of industry experience in a few words to live by, these icons know exactly how to excite us into experimenting with our outfits and being confident in our personal style.

That being said, it’s only right we share some of our favorite fashion quotes, which give us all the inspo we need to master the catwalk of life.

The Perfect Female Power Suit

The Perfect Female Power Suit

International Women’s Day might have passed by, but we’re all about feeling (and looking) powerful, strong and confident for every occasion. And correct us if we’re wrong, but nothing feels more commanding than wearing a striking suit.

There is something about flipping gender norms in style (and society) on their head and opting for a sharp, tailored suit instead of a smart dress or pencil skirt. While there is nothing wrong with a feminine touch, we believe that you can achieve this just as easily by rocking a fresh, on-trend power suit.

At The Tailory New York, we work with you to create classic, custom designed suits that integrate seamlessly into your busy lifestyle, taking you from the boardroom to the bar and even to the red carpet, as many celebrity style icons have proved recently

Let’s take a look at a few ways you can wear the power suit this season…

Chic Pastels

When it comes to colour, we’re not too shy. Although we like to stick with navy blues, creams and greys (as seen in our Spring 2017 Lookbook), we can’t help but adore the pretty pastel shades that made an appearance at the latest fashion shows.

Take Gucci for example, using a gorgeous candy-colored pink to completely turn this structured suit around. Worn with brogues or with killer heels, this suit is all about standing out even more.

Slouchy and Cool

It is often assumed that suits must be expertly fitted to look great. While we at The Tailory New York specialize in customized suits and making sure your pieces are as flattering as possible, we also appreciate the slouchy style of suit that is uber-chic, on-trend and just as sexy.

In fact, a little bit of slouch can give an air of ‘je ne sais quoi’ to your look, proving that you like to push the boundaries of style and you aren’t afraid to embrace the oversized.

Paul Smith proved just that in his Paris Fashion Week show earlier this year, designing a gorgeous turquoise suit that was not only hot in color, but also was visibly less fitted. He purposely kept the suit more relaxed instead of cinching in the trousers and jacket, creating a super cool outfit that definitely still exudes power.

Classics aren’t just for Christmas

You cannot beat the classics. If you aren’t feeling brave enough to rock a candy pink suit and you’re not yet sold on the slouchier vibe, then a clean, fitted black suit is always a powerful option.

Nothing gives a woman the confidence to kick-ass quite like the shade of black – it goes with everything and it suits every figure, skin tone, and taste! Not only that but a well-fitted, custom black suit (with a divine pair of shoes) has the ability to truly turn heads – as many of our customers know!

If you’re looking for something that you can completely tailor to your own personal style, browse through our Lookbooks and contact us today, so we can get an idea of what type of suit you desire. After all, a power suit is extra powerful when you’ve had a hand in designing it!

On the other hand, there are many designers creating exquisite suits that fit like a glove too, such as Diane Von Furstenberg and Christian Dior (pictured above). Find jackets that pinch you in at the waist for an hourglass illusion and mix it up with either super skinny trousers or wide-leg bottoms.

If you feel like kicking things up a notch (black doesn’t have to be boring!) then skip the shirt underneath and wear your jacket over a cute lace bralette, layered with lots of statement necklaces.

Suits are our superpower! What is yours?
