The Tailory New York is an appointment-only, women-owned and operated bespoke clothing company that combines modern fashion design with the heritage art of custom tailoring. We stand firmly in the belief and knowledge that suiting is genderless and caters in equal measure to men, women, and non-binary individuals.

Custom suiting either fulfills or subverts societal expectations by communicating a self-determined personal image to the world around us. We wield the power of fashion design to meet the singular needs of each of our clients, particularly those in the LGBTQIA+ community, which sets us apart from other custom clothiers.

The Tailory New York was founded by Parsons graduate Shao Yang in October 2013. Yang’s keen sense of fashion, coupled with her unparalleled tech and design skills, allows her to create looks for both men, women, and nonbinary individuals. Since the Tailory opened its doors in New York, it has become a mecca for the LGBTQIA+ community.

CUSTOM CLOTHING THAT AFFIRMS YOU

When designing a custom garment, we always ask ourselves: who is the wearer, and where will they be wearing their custom clothing? What are they trying to communicate to the world around them? And how can we create a custom garment tailored to their unique style, physique, and gender identity and/or presentation? We have created a safe space for our clients to express themselves freely, and create custom suits that affirms them allowing them to be their true authentic selves.

Our Founder & Creative Director is an alumni of the prestigious Parsons School of Design, where she studied under Tim Gunn. She has gathered a team of expert designers, tailors, pattern makers, and creatives to create both; a world-class custom experience, and best-in-class clothing. As a team, we have over 75+ combined years of industry experience.
